Acting Locally to Make a Big Difference

It is an old saying that rings true. It is the little things that usually make the most significant difference. Small steps lead to big change, and by starting locally, you have the opportunity to effect change in a community which, in turn, makes that community stronger by aligning itself around a common goal.

Last week, The Legion of Bloom was honored to team up with our good friends at Elevation 2477 to be apart of the annual Yuba River clean up. Put on by the South Yuba Citizens League (or SYRCL--pronounced circle), the river clean up spanned 80 miles of the Yuba River at 30 different cleanup sites and attracted over 1000 volunteers. Over the past 20 years, this clean up has removed over 120 tons of garbage and recycling from the watershed.

A few months back, on Earth Day, we activated with Mercy Wellness in Sonoma County to clean up Sonoma Creek outside of Cotati during the 420 weekend. We were able to make a big impact with a small group. Sometimes that is all it takes!!!

At the LEGION, we do these kinds of activations with our team and partners quarterly. This practice enables the LEGION to give back to local California environmental causes and helps us bring awareness to the issue of water use and the unintended consequences of living in a disposable world.
